Sick & Injured Birds

If you really care for birds and you don't want to see any of them get hurt you may want to find a way to help them and prevent bird injuries from happening. The best way to do this is to join a wildlife group that's working to save them. Doing this will not just help the environment, but they also need the money. They need as many people as possible to be aware of these problems. By doing this you can explain to people what harm is being done. Pollution is becoming a big problem these days.

If you ever come across a bird that has been hurt by flying into a window, bing it inside and carefully place it in a medium sized box with a lid ( make sure you punch air holes in the lid ). Never handle a bird without gloves - and no matter how cute it is, NEVER handle the bird any more than you have to. If you do, the bird will become too tame. Leave the bird in the box for a few hours to rest, then release the bird. For more serious reasons, call your local wildlife society.

If you find an oiled sea bird you need to act fast. If a bird's feathers are covered in oil, it cannot swim or fly. This means it can't catch food and could end up starving to death. If birds try to clean the oil off by preening, it could swallow enough of it to kill itself. Don't try to clean it yourself. You need special skills and cleaning solutions to do so. Instead, contact your local bird group or a vet who can help.
