Buying The Right Feeder
If you are planning to buy a bird feeder you can't just pick up any random type. There are quite a few different kinds and they come in all sorts of sizes.
The size of the feeder is an important thing to think about. If you want to attract medium and big sized birds, you need to look for a big feeder. If you want smaller birds, buy a smaller feeder.
You can't just buy any type of feeder either. There are certain kinds for orioles, hummingbirds, and other birds.
Be careful! You need to make sure that the bird you're buying a feeder for is in your area. Otherwise it'll just be a waste of money. Once you buy your feeder don't expect to find birds on it right away. Birds need time to find the feeder and then feel safe and comfortable eating from it. Make sure a tree or bush is at least 10 feet close to your feeder. More birds will come if you do this because they'll feel safer knowing they have close shelter if a predator comes by. Never try to harm or disturb birds that come to your feeder. If you do they may stop coming.
Buying The Right Bird Food
When you buy food make sure it's the right kind. If you want blackbirds and robins and other worm-eating birds, buy dried or frozen worms. If you want songbirds and seed-eating birds, buy bird seed. If you want hummingbirds and orioles, buy hummingbird and oriole nectar. ( Hummingbirds and orioles drink the same thing- nectar.)My best recommended brand of bird food is Kaytee.
